The suspect, a 26-year-old man will appear in court tomorrow to face charges over the death of Katy Rourke.

The arrest comes after police launched a murder inquiry following the discovery of Katy’s body at the property in Glasgow just after 5pm on Wednesday, the Daily Record reported.

Friends had appealed on social media for information on her whereabouts on the day the 25-year-old’s body was found.

The deceased’s parents, Phil, 55, and Dawn, 54, were being comforted at their detached house in Broughty Ferry but were too devastated to even say anything about their daughter’s death.

It was not known whether Katy’s sisters Gill, 23, and 28-year-old Jen had returned home to be with the couple after the horrific news broke.

Residents and neighbours in the suburb said they were shocked, stunned by what had happened.

According to one of them: “Dawn and Phil had only been back from Glasgow a few minutes when I spoke to them. I just couldn’t believe it.

“A number of locals would have been keen to first foot the family so I went around all the neighbours warning them to give them some space as they need time to take in what has happened.”

Katy had been living in Glasgow with her older sister Jen, in between stints working on cruise ships for P&O, thought to be in Australia.

Likewise neighbours at the scene where the body was discovered, a first floor flat in Minto Street in the city’s Govan, were in terrible shock.

One woman, speaking to reporters said: “This has come as a huge shock. I knew nothing about this until the police arrived on Wednesday. It is a devastating thing to hear.”

Another man added: “It is heartbreaking for a young girl to lose her life like that. My heart goes out to her and her family.

It is not clear why police went to that address, and they have not said anything about that just yet. It is however likely they were tipped off or that an emergency call had been made.

They conducted door-to-door inquiries and looked at CCTV images.

A post mortem carried out on Katy’s body yesterday confirmed foul play and the suspect, who was last night reported to be in hospital, will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A 26-year-old man has been arrested and is now detained in police custody.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
