Nwobodo Dumps Anglican Community, Re-marries In Catholic Church (PHOTO)

Barely 24 hours after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jim Nwobodo, a former governor of old Anambra state, dumped the Anglican Communion for the Catholic church.

Senator Nwobodo re-married his heartthrob, Patricia, at the Catholic Bishop’s Court in Enugu.

The Nation reports that Senator Nwobodo re-married his heartthrob, Patricia, at the Catholic Bishop’s Court in Enugu. He had wedded her in the Anglican Communion in the early 80s when the late Abubakar Rimi performed the duties of best man.

Nwobodo was a staunch Anglican and in the 70s he even built the multi-million Naira St. Mathew’s Anglican Church in his hometown, Amechi, Awkunanaw.

However, after the death of his son, Nwobodo fell out with the leadership of the Anglican Communion. The burial site of his son generated a big controversy.

According to The Punch, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the governor of Enugu state, was the sponsor of the wedding.

The governor had reportedly agreed to be the sponsor of the marriage before Nwobodo decided to dump the PDP. Although it is still not clear whether Ugwuanyi had any idea that Nwobodo was defecting to the APC, but one of the governor’s close aides expressed shock when he learnt of the development.

Speaking at the event, Ugwuanyi thanked God for the successful wedding and prayed that the union of the couple grew from strength to strength.

Delivering the sermon during the church service, Rev. Fr. Peter Damian Akpunonu recalled that when Nwobodo was the governor of the old Anambra state, he was a member of the Anglican church and a good relationship with the Catholic church.

The priest further commended Nwobodo for having the courage to convert to the Catholic faith.

Speaking about his decision to join the Catholic church, Nwobodo said that he is now a fulfilled man and described the development as a spiritual “home coming”.
