Read What Youths Launched In Abuja To Demand Accountability From National Assembly
A popular youth-inclined organization, the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA), on Wednesday, January 13, officially launched the Young Legislators Accountability Project (YLAPNG).
Launching the project in partnership with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), the head of Research, Policy and Advocacy, YIAGA, Mr Samson Itodo told a cross section of young legislators from the national assembly, representatives of media organizations, civil society and youth groups that YLAPNG would help deepen democratic accountability and bridge the gap that exists between the legislature and constituents.
“YLAPNG will deepen democratic accountability and bridge the gap between the constituents and the legislature in the 8th National Assembly,” Itodo said
Speaking at the event with the theme : ‘Building A New Social Contract, Forging Effective Relationship Between Legislators And Constituents’, Samson Itodo said that YLAPNG would also provide legislative support, and accountability, citizens participation and political mentorship.

According to Itodo, YLAPNG will provide a platform for mainstreaming the interest of the over 60 percent population of Nigeria including youth into the governance processes.
In his remarks, the country director of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), Mr Jude Ilo commended YIAGA adding that YLAPNG is a ‘courageous move’. He also added: “What we are doing here today with YLAPNG is to build a new crop of national leaders”.

Delivering his good will message, the African representative on the board of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Youth –Forum of Young Parliamentarians and Chair of the Nigerian chapter of the forum, Hon. Raphael Nnanna Igbokwe, articulated the commitment of the present young legislators in Nigeria’s national assembly to bringing about change in governance
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress candidate in the Rivers South East Senatorial District re-run election, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, said he has uncovered a plot by the Rivers state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party to launch a protest and smear campaign with N50 million against his person.
Sen. Abe made this known in a signed statement stating that the purpose of the plot is to deceive the Ogoni people that he was behind the present crisis in the Movement for the Survival Ogoni People (MOSOP) as well as the security operations against suspected cultists and kidnappers in Ogoni land.
