The crisis rocked the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state over the leadership of the party.

The two opposing groups appeared ahead of the 2019 general polls: one supports former vice president Atiku Abubakar and another backs the incumbent leader of the nation Muhammadu Buhari.

Abubakar’s camp is headed by Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla, while Buhari’s is being led by Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), David Babachir, the three senators representing Adamawa state and Alhaji Haladu Mohammed, (Sardauna Jimeta) a main financier of governor Jibrila’s poll.

The current leadership of the APC in the state is presented by the Governor, Murtala Nyako, a staunch supporter of the president.

Nyako carefully selected the members of the party executive with Senator Binta Garba Maci, as the state chairman.

All candidates of the former VP comprising the present House of Representative member representing Jada, Toungo, Mayo-belwa and Genye constituency, Comrade Abdularazak Namdas, lost the party leadership polls.

However, trying to back Atiku, who allegedly has interest to run for 2019 presidential poll, the governor two weeks ago appointed his APC state chairman without the conduct of any poll.

The late party’s state chairperson Alhaji Shaibu Yamusa’s office before his death last week, was supposedly broken into and taken over by one Dimas Ezra, the APC vice chairman Adamawa central, while the late chairman was participating in a meeting in Numan his home local government area.

Since the governor took over the mantle of leadership in the state, APC has been facing problems due to lack of money and it was supposed that the plan was to let the party to crumble financially and go into comatose so that the Atiku group can set up their structures.

However, speaking on the crisis, the deputy national vice chairman of the ruling party Boss Mustapha, has stated that APC Adamawa was not in crisis and that the party has only one chairperson who he said died recently in Kano and that there was no other politician acting in his capacity.

Muhammadu Buhari and Abubakar were running a tight race in the build up to the All Progressive Congress presidential primaries before the last year presidential primaries.

However, Buhari won the contest and later became the President of Nigeria.
