Morning Teaser: Should the use of Hijab be banned in Nigeria?
On Morning Teaser, we want you to join the debate on the ban or otherwise on the use of Hijab in Nigeria.
The debate on the use of Hijab (the apparel worn by Muslim women to conceal some parts of their anatomy and for modesty), has been raging in Nigeria, following calls for its ban due to the fact that some Boko Haram suicide bombers cover themselves with the Hijab before detonating the explosives.
Even President Muhammadu Buhari had, late last year, mooted the idea of banning its use, at least till the terrorists are defeated but many have argued that Nigeria, being a polarised country where there is freedom of worship, a ban on the use of the apparel would mean placing a restriction on those who use it.
Countries like Chad, Niger and even the Gambia, have placed a ban on the use of Hijab in public but proponents of the Hijab in Nigeria have warned the government against considering it, especially going by the fact that religion is a very touchy issue in the country and many would see it as clamping down on the rights of the Muslims.
On Morning Teaser today, we want you to join this debate: do you think the government should go ahead and ban the use of Hijab especially with the security concerns?
