The 40th anniversary of the brutal assassination of Murtala Mohammed started on Friday, February 12 with a special Jumuah service in Massallacin Murtala at Kano state. Likewise, there was an Exhibition organised by the Murtala Mohammed Foundation at the National Museum in Lagos.
At the Lagos event, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture sent a representative who spoke about the sterling leadership qualities of the late Kano state born military officer.

Dr Goodluck Jonathan took to his Facebook page to give his own insight on how a positive change agent should be like. Jonathan opined that Murtala fits into this category.
In his words he said:
“Murtala was a true Nigerian hero and positive change agent. On this 40th anniversary of his untimely demise, I pray for his soul to continue to find repose in the Almighty and for his family that they keep reaping the good rewards of his selfless life.
“Finally, I urge our youth to study the life of this great patriot and learn from him on how to love Nigeria and all her people.”
Some Nigerians are of the view that just like Murtala Mohammed, President Muhammadu Buhari is trying to turn around the economic fortunes of the masses because he is on the right track with some of his economic policies.
Dr Jonathan is among the thousands of renowned Nigerians who are paying reverence to Murtala Mohammed.
