Photo: 21-year-old man commits suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving train

21-year-old Brendon Apples was found dead from apparent suicide at Denneboom Station near Mamelodi, SA on Monday, February 8, one week after he disappeared. According to his mother, Cecilia Apples, Brendon was last seen leaving home for work around 05:00 last Tuesday. She said he didn’t make it to work and she immediately contacted the police the next day after he had failed to return home. 

She reported her son missing on Wednesday and appealed to residents and the media for any information on his whereabouts.Brendon was finally found in a mortuary. The police said he threw himself on rail tracks in suicide.

"The police found his body and took him to the mortuary."

Apples said she was contacted by police informing her that they had found a body matching her son’s description.

"Police said he committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving train," Apples said.

She said the family positively identified the body as Brendon Apples on Monday and were organising his funeral for Saturday.

"Brendon was a very quiet and loving child and he was working in Gezina doing upholstery."
