Salaries: Read what Aregbesola demanded from Osun workers

Osun workers reject Aregbesola’s demand for BVN

Workers on the platform of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun state has rejected the directive by the state government demanding for their Bank Verification Number (BVN).

A statement signed by chairman of the NLC, Jacob Adekomi and three others on Tuesday, February 23 stated that the BVN was exclusive and personal to its owner and that the state government has no right to request for it.

It noted that issues bordering on workers welfare especially salary related matter should be discussed with the union adding that labour was in the dark on the purpose or reasons for the submission of the document.

The workers noted that their decision to jettison the directive was justified when the report of previous cleaning exercise has not been released to the leadership of labour.

The labour unions in the state demanded an urgent meeting with the state government over the matter and directed the workers to disregard the circular mandating them to provide their BVN until the issue is resolved with the state government.

In his reaction, spokesman to the governor Semiu Okanlawon however justified the decision of the state government to have the BVN of its workers.
