The much awaited "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" premiered on

FX's American crime anthology "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson" made its debut on network as the most watched series launch ever.

Bringing in 5.1 million total viewers, the series which focuses on the murder trial of O. J. Simpson, beat "American Horror Story," "Sons of Anarchy," and "Fargo" to take the spot.

Based on the book “The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson” by Jeffrey Toobin, the series offers a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers.

Serving as a spin-off and companion series for "American Horror Story," which is created by the same producers, the first season which is subtitled The People v. O. J. Simpson, will focus on the murder trial of O. J. Simpson, and will premiere on February 6, 2016.

"American Crime Story" stars Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson, John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as defense attorney Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, Billy Magnussen as Kato Kaelin, and Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran.

Synopsis.

“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” is a limited series that takes you inside the O.J. Simpson trial with a riveting look at the legal teams battling to convict or acquit the football legend of double homicide. Based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, it explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

“The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” will continue its 10-episode run next Tuesday, February 9 on FX.
