Top actor gets death threat for supporting ruling political party (Photo)

Politics is not a game for the lily-livered, it is for the strong. This is the time when security consciousness is the watch word of top Ghanaian actor John Dumelo.

Dumelo stirred up controversies on social media after his tweet that Ghanaian presidential candidate Nana Akufo Addo will never win the 2016 elections.

The 32-year-old actor was condemned for endorsing incumbent president John Dramani Mahama after criticizing his government of incompetence. John was accused of being a snitch and lacks credibility. This doubt and criticism came on the heels of the appearance of a picture he took with the presidential candidate of the opposition party New Patriotic Party’s candidate Nana Akufo Addo.

According to reports, the actor had promised to support Addo’s campaign in the upcoming elections only for him to appear in campaign adverts, jumping on campaign platforms for the ruling party National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dumelo also stylishly campaigned for the NDC during the 2015 Ghana Movie Awards when he announced that the NDC had fulfilled its promise to fix the power crisis (Dumsor).

In a tweet Dumelo had said:

I have nothing against Nana Addo but I only see one person Being sworn in come January 2017 and it’s not him(Nana) https://t.co/2PFczptMmV

However, Dumelo has denied the claims that he ever agreed to support Addo. He went further to declare that his life is being threatened as he has been receiving life-threatening messages since his declaration. 

Defending himself over the pictures he took with Addo, Dumelo tweeted:

I never met Nana Addo secretly. The last and only time I saw him was in 2014, 2 clear years ago. #ichoosejdm

He revealed on Kasapa FM, Ghana that: “I keep on receiving threatening messages from anonymous persons. They are threatening my life…so many things for making a statement. But I give everything to God. They are issuing the threats on social media, anonymous phone calls and things. ”  

Meanwhile, Dumelo recently bagged a chieftaincy title in Cameroon. The new chief took to his Instagram page immediately to show off his latest achievement. He posted a picture of him in his royal attire with the caption: “thanks a lot to the people of Bamenda, Cameroon. Was given this beautiful regalia to signify the royal title bestowed upon me. I’m grateful. Oh, and the title comes with a lot of land too! #oneAfrica #melotourist.”
