The transport minister and former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that members of the Boko Haram terrorist group do not engage in beheading Nigerians.

He made the controversial statement while speaking with Gbenga Aruleba during an African Independent Television (AIT) programme, Focus Nigeria, on Friday.

Amaechi, who was speaking on the ongoing strife and killings in Rivers state, alleged that the Rivers people were being beheaded without naming their alleged assailants.

The minister, who boasted that there was no killings during his tenure as governor, wondered how a human being was capable of killing a fellow human.

According to him, the people who behead human beings are members of the ISIS sect, and not the Boko Haram sect.

Boko Haram has copied the brutal beheading tactics of ISIS

“The kind of killing now did not happen the time I was the governor. Beheading people? How can a human being behead his fellow human being?” Amerchi said.

“The people that do it are people in ISIS not even Boko Haram, Boko Haram don’t behead people.

“The difference between what is happening in Rivers state and what Boko Haram is doing is because Boko Haram is almost decimated, and what the police is doing in Rivers state is similar to what Goodluck Jonathan did with Boko Haram; ‘oh I don’t give a damn if they want to kill them they can kill themselves.’”

Amaechi’s statement about Boko Haram has been met with shock as the terror group has released several beheading videos.

Eight months ago, a video was published online which showed a Nigerian soldier being executed by the jihadists.

The unfortunate warrior was beheaded by the terrorists with a knife after an army patrol was ambushed in Borno state.
