Consequently, the 27-year-old has been suspended from club activities upon completion of the ban.

Meanwhile, the German FA has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Mainz and Balogun to file for an appeal. Match referee Felix Zwayer did not see the infringement but it was caught by the television cameras.

It would be recalled that relegated English club Aston Villa also suspended Gabriel Agbonlahor and have begun an investigation after he was allegedly pictured with laughing gas canisters in a party in London.

The 29-year-old was pictured in partying in a hotel room in London on the same night Villa were relegated as they were beaten 1 – 0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Agbonlahor was already on the sidelines after being told he got over-weight and was being placed on a special training program to regain fitness.

The England International was earlier suspended by Villa after he was pictured appearing to hold a shisha pipe while in Dubai, but the club took no further action. The Edo state born English player has spent his entire playing career for Villa, a team which is now assured of playing Championship football next season.
