Why I hate being compared to 9ice – Famous music star
Nigerian singer, Jaywon – real name, Iledare Juwonlo – recently released his third studio album, Oba Orin (King Of Music). Known for his hit, This Year (Odun Yi), Jaywon tried for bigger ones by featuring a host of A-list stars on his album: Mode9, Reminisce, YQ, Olamide and Phyno among others. He spoke to NAIJ.com about Oba Orin and why he hates being compared to colleague 9ice.
What’s good Jaywon?
Yeah, everything feels nice. I feel good and excited. I just dropped an album, a dope one for that matter. I’m happy.

It’s been a long road from Kennis Music to Next World Entertainment, tells about the journey.
It hasn’t being that easy but it’s being good. We give God all the glory. I have been getting a lot of love from the media, colleagues and fans that always inspire me to do more and take the game a notch higher. The journey is not for the brave but for the blessed. Everything is working fine as planned. Let’s just keep up doing what we do. Next World entertainment is my home and I’m enjoying the successes my career has witnessed since I joined the label. We’ll keep giving God all the glory and thank the fans for accepting us.
You’ve got some lovely collaborations on the album but which do you deem the dopest?
Mehn, people are loving Jolly Muke right now. The track is topping all the charts right now and its video has also helped in putting it fully out there. But everyone keeps talking about the one with Reekado Banks, Gbadun, and the streets is talking about the one with Reminisce and Seriki, Kule Lori, so I’m excited. It’s a close call but I can’t pick anyone right now. Special shout out to everyone that featured and help in putting out a good album in Oba Orin.

What do you make of the comparisons to 9ice? The success of Jolly Muke has been linked to the seeming similarity bin your styles and sounds. What’s the relationship between you two?
Yeah, a relationship exists between me and 9ice. He is like a big brother to me and he has been so supportive as well. People keep saying we sound alike when we don’t even sound alike. The only similarity is our use of the Yoruba language in our songs. Try and listen carefully to our songs, you will definitely notice the difference. 9ice is 9ice and Jaywon is Jaywon. I don’t think we sound alike. Jolly Muke is a good job. The collaboration is the big one the industry has been waiting for for so many years and I gave it to them.
So after Oba Orin, what’s next for Jaywon?
More videos off the album, tours and shows around the world. We are not stopping, just keep supporting us and we will never let you down.
