Ajax manager will replace fired Everton coach?

– Roberto Martinez was fired following a string of dismal performances

– Everton will finish inside the bottom half for a second consecutive season

– Frank de Boer could replace Everton manager

According to the brother of the former Ajax manager,  Frank de Boer is interested in the Everton job.

 

Roberto Martinez who was appointed as the Everton manager on June 5, 2013, has been sacked with immediate effect. The decision was reached after the Toffees managed to pick up only four points in the Premier League since March 5.

Frank de Boer’s brother  Ronald  said:  “Frank is interested in the Everton job, but it’s not up to him to make the move. That’s up to the club. In my eyes he’s the right man for that job. He thought he was going to fulfil his ambition of managing in the Premier League, but talks with Tottenham collapsed at the last minute.”

He continued: “When you see what [Ronald] Koeman has done at Southampton, I would argue Frank is at least as good as him when you see what he has achieved at Ajax. I think Everton would be a good fit for Frank. It’s the sort of club where he’d be given the chance to show his qualities and do something special. He made up his mind to leave Ajax two months ago because he needed a change.”

Their 3-0 loss to Sunderland on Wednesday, May 11, stretched their dismal run of form to just one win in 10 matches in all competitions.

A banner with the inscription “Martinez out” was visible at the Stadium of Light in their recent games, including when some fans held a protest against the Spaniard following the 2-1 victory over Bournemouth on April 30.

Another form of chant against the manager was scheduled for Thursday, May 12, outside St George’s Hall, venue for the club’s end-of-season awards dinner.

However, it is unlikely for the protest to go on, following the dismissal of the manager. Martinez had vowed to bring the “winning feeling back” to Everton following their defeat to Sunderland, their fourth loss in their last five matches, but he will not have the chance to do so against Norwich City on Sunday, May 15.
