– Tells President Buhari that their leaders are the problems in the Niger Delta region

Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan is being alleged to have pioneered the Niger Delta Avengers, a new militant group in the south-south.

This allegation was made by the National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators (NCNDE-A), stating that the ex-president planted the group in January, 2015 ahead of the March 2015 presidential election.

According to Vanguard, Israel Akpodoro, the group’s president who made the accusation in a statement in Abuja, asked the former president to call members of the budding militant group to order.

“The Niger Delta Avengers is a creation of an ex-president aimed at thwarting any efforts made by successive administration especially that of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, administration,” the statement read in part.

Akpodoro stated further that the message sent to them by the former president’s special adviser was for all ex-militants from the region to return to the creek and prepare for ‘action’ against Buhari.

He added that the said action includes “what we are witnessing today in the actions of the Niger Delta Avengers.”

“I was bundled out of the meeting but, Nigerians are witnessing the menace today.

“The ex-President created the monster-Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, and he alone can call them to order and that is what my group is asking him to do.

“Our common enemies in the Niger Delta region are those governors, ministers, Special Advisers, Director Generals, Senators and other representatives from the region who participated in government and use their offices to enrich themselves at the detriment of general good.

“We must redirect our anger to those who cornered the dividends of democracy in the region buying fleet of aeroplanes, building mansions in choices cities of the world…while their people live in abject poverty. “President Buhari isn’t our problem but our leaders from the region,” the ex-militant averred.

He also noted that, “President Buhari should not relent in his military actions against those he described as enemies of peace in the region.”

Meanwhile, Governor Ezenwo Wike of Rivers state has also condemned the blowing up of pipelines in the Niger Delta by militants, saying that it is not in the interest of the region as it negatively affects the revenue that accrue to the states for development.

He said the states of the Niger Delta will work with the federal government and security agencies to stop the bombing of pipelines by militants. In an interview with German Television, ARD in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Wike said: “Blowing up pipelines will further decrease our revenue, which affect payment of salaries and development projects.”
