A Spanish referee Jesus Tomillero has been under constant attacks after coming out as Spain’s first gay referee and is now in the process quitting football.

Tomillero has been under homophibic abuse after openly admitting to the public he was gay 14 months ago. He has been a referee in the Andalucian regional league from age 11.

Tomillero retired from his boy hood job after he was subjected to insults from the crowd when he awarded a penalty in match between Portuense and San Fernando Isleno.

Tomillero said “Everyone in the crowd laughed.”

According to him, he has received support from political parties in La Linea and referees in La Liga,

However, the former referee aired his frustration as the local Andalusian federation ignored him when he decided to come out publicy last March.
