IGP Arase should prosecute arrested gunmen who confessed to be APC members – PDP

– The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is standing as an obstacle to the trial of some arrested gunmen who are APC members

– The call was made by the Lagos state chapter of the PDP

– The PDP urged the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, to prosecute the APC political thugs who were arrested at the 2015 general elections

On Thursday, May 12, Gani Taofik, Lagos state PDP’s publicity secretary was reported to have said some APC stalwarts are trying to impede the prosecution of the arrested gunmen

According to The Punch, at least two weeks ago, an alleged self-confessed cult member by the name Muhideen Ibrahim was apprehended by men of the Lagos state police command. The 29-year-old Ibrahim was said to have carried guns to the APC campaign venues during the election period of last year at Lagos-Island, Lagos state.

In a statement released to that effect the PDP stated: “At this juncture, we invite the IGP to take over the case file of Muhideen Ibrahim and other arrested gunmen who have confessed to be agents of the APC.

“While we commend the Lagos State Police Command, we want the IGP to continue the investigation because the APC chieftains have now waded in to cover up their deeds.

“If the IGP takes over the case file, this may lead us to many other previous political killings like that of the late Funsho Williams and others.

“We are not being partisan here; we are aware and had reported that many of our members were attacked, maimed, killed at various rallies and venues. During the last general election, many of our members were attacked in Alimosho, Oshodi, Lagos Island, Kosofe and other areas in the state.”

The suspected cultist is from Kwara State. He was said to have taken two pump-action rifles to the governorship primaries held at the Tafawa Balewa Square in the Onikan area for the “protection of my gang’s candidate.”

The opposition party in Lagos advised IGP Arase to handle the prosecution case himself, in order to ensure a proper trial of the suspects. The PDP likewise advised youths not to allow themselves to be used as tools to commit evil acts by any party or politician, warning that anyone who is blindly used will eventually be abandoned when apprehended.

Relatedly, the APC was also tongue-lashed by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, who described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as an advanced fee fraud practitioner for deceiving the country’s citizens.
