In Abuja: NLC, NACA offer free HIV, blood pressure tests to workers
Onyia-Ekwuazi said that instant treatment is administered for malaria and referrals for HIV patients.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in partnership with the National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) on Sunday, offered free HIV, blood sugar and blood pressure tests to workers.
Mrs Maureen Onyia-Ekwuazi, the Head of Operational Health and Safety Department of the NLC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the gesture was part activities organised to mark 2016 May Day celebration.
She said it was NLC’s way of improving the health of workers.
Onyia-Ekwuazi said that the programme was in its third phase as it had been running for three years with the support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) office and the Federal Government.
``They support NACA to support us; they support reputable organisations like NLC to conduct free medical tests in so many places, including work places.
``This year, we have been going from office to office; we have nurses and medical doctors working with us.
``We also conduct free eye tests with our vision experts; we offer blood pressure, blood sugar, malaria tests.
``Our malaria component is supported by Society for Family Health.
``For the eyes, we offer instant treatment; for the other ones, we are helping our workers to at least determine their health status,’’ she said.
Onyia-Ekwuazi said that instant treatment is administered for malaria and referrals for HIV patients.
According to her, the NLC also works in collaboration with Wuse General Hospital and Garki General Hospital, among others.
She said that workers in Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos states would also benefit from the health programme.
