Tension as Niger Delta Avengers threaten to deal with Buhari

– Militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers have declared readiness to create a Sovereign State of Niger Delta for its people come October 2016

– The group boasts that it has crippled the nation’s economy by 50 per cent and still aiming at 100 per cent

– Claims to have informants in the Nigeria Army, adding that it knows all the plans the army was making and will always be ten steps ahead

The tension in the Niger Delta region has heightened following threats by new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to frustrate the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group has also declared it readiness to create a Sovereign State of Niger Delta for its people come October 2016.

The NDA which has claimed responsibility for the renewed pipeline bombings in the region vowed to hoist its flag, display its currency and passport, ruling council and territory to the world on October 2016, Tribune reports.

The group in a statement through its spokesperson Col. Mudoch Agbinibo, on Thursday, May 12, in Warri, Delta state boasted that it has crippled the nation’s economy by 50 per cent and still aiming at 100 per cent.

NDA claimed to have informants in the Nigeria military, adding that it knows all the plans the army was making and will always be ten steps ahead.

The statement which was written in a not-too-polished English warned that: In our meeting comprising all heads of the strike teams, which was held in Bayelsa. The Niger Delta Avengers high Command comes to the conclusion that, if the military harass or invade any community in the region then you (Nigeria military) will get a feel of the Avengers.

“If you smart or intelligent enough you will look inward not outside. We know when you are vulnerable but not take our calmness for granted.”

To President Buhari, the group said: “We are sure you have not been to the creeks of the Niger Delta before and 90 per cent of your cabinets does not know how the region looks like.”

NDA accused Buhari of flouting the rule of Law and detaining people arbitrarily, citing the detention of Nnamdi Kanu as unlawful.

“All he wanted was to let his people go. Nnamdi Kanu didn’t carry any arm against this country, but was incarcerated. We want you to know that’s no civilise President will behaves this way.

“If that is how you devised to run the country, we will prefer you do that in the northern region. When couples are tired of living together to make peace they go their separate ways. That is what Nnamdi kanu and the Niger Deltans are asking.

“You always say you fought for the unity of this country during the civil war. You haven’t been to the Niger Delta, how can you know what the people are facing I believe your Vice will tell how the region is suffering and under developed when he visited the Forcados Terminal. That is if he ever looks out of his helicopter window.”

Meanwhile, Commander Bibi Oduku, the commandant general, Riverine Security (Coast Guard of the Federation), has revealed the identity of militants bombing oil installations in Delta state under the cover of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).

According to him, the NDA hails from Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri Southwest local government area of the state.

Oduku also fingered an ex-militant leader, who he accused of “aiding and abetting criminals in their community in the recent attack on oil and gas installations within and outside the kingdom.
