Transfer update: Wenger eyes Lewandowski, Carzola set to leave the Gunners
– Arsene Wenger is ready to swoop for Mehdi Benatia and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich
– Arsenal would have a pay close to £50million as the pole has three years left to run on his contract
– Santi Carzola is keen to leave the club for Villareal in a bid to gain more first team action
Arsenal are keen on signing defender Mehdi Benatia and striker Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, according to the Daily Star.
With Gabriel and Per Mertesacker both looking culpable at the back, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has targeted Benatia as the perfect partner for Laurent Koscielny.
Benatia has struggled with injuries this season but he is not a sure starter for Bayern Munich if fit.
“I have no problem, if I have to leave Bayern Munich, then I’ll leave, but first I want to end this season well,” he told Sky Sport Italia on Friday.
“I am experiencing a very important moment of my career and I won’t be like the club who decided to talk about the transfer market before a Champions League semi-final.”

Meanwhile Lewandowski has been earmarked as the perfect foil for Arsenal’s array of attacking midfielders who have failed to inspire the club to the top of the Premier League table this season.
His contract in Germany still has three years to run and that would allow Bayern to put a £50million price tag on Lewandowski but Wenger will be able to spend that after the new TV money is paid.
One player who looks to be leaving the club is Santi Carzola who is willing to return to Spanish side Villarreal.
Cazorla, who played for the La Liga club earlier in his career, hasn’t featured for the Gunners since picking up a knee injury in November.
Villarreal are currently in fourth place in the Spanish league table and are likely to be able to offer Champions League football to Cazorla next season.
