The show which is presented fully in pidgin, the language of the people, touches on every subject that is currently on the front burner in the country; you can keep up with the programme on the

Tell us a bit about yourself.
“I am Ezugwu Chukwudi Cyprian, a native of Amadim village in Edem-Nru autonomous community of Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu state. I was born in Lagos to the family of Mr.& Mrs. Moses Ezugwu; I am the fourth son and fifth child of seven children and I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and International Studies from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka.”

Have you always wanted to be in the media?
“After several failed attempts to get a placement into the University of my choice at a time where any reckless act in any centre where the University Matriculation Exams were written amounted to a general cancellation or withholding of result, age was somewhat not on my side to study Law; I was in luck at my fourth time of trying and opted to study History and International studies as a result of my early influences. Taking a cursory look at how everything unfolded eventually, it’s safe to say that while I wasn’t exactly very much interested in the media, a lot of factors prepared me for the rare opportunity to fit in properly when the media sought something new and different.”

They call you “Husband Material”, how did you come about that name?
“My height and physiognomy are features that stand me out at first glance. In the quest to develop a brand name that will interest anyone who hears about it for the first time, I thought it wise to settle for a moniker that also reflected a whole lot of qualities other than ‘Giant’ ‘Destroyer’ ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ or ‘Iroko’ that most people will likely perceive me as if attention is placed excessively on my height alone. Husband Material is pleasing to the ears and most often than not; after any introduction it is common to hear “how many yards of Husband Material are you”? The ensuing conversation gives me a very good opportunity to convince anyone I am a gentleman indeed.”

Have you ever tried your hands out on volleyball or basketball?
“I grew up in a society where football was the chief sport and I participated actively in football competitions at primary and junior secondary school respectively. My heroics in between the goal post earned me the nickname Chilavert after the outstanding Paraguay goal tender of the late nineties. After reading about the tremendous achievements of Hakeem Olajunwon in the winding stages of my junior secondary school and taking cognizance of my height, I took an interest in basket ball but since basket ball courts were a rarity it wasn’t anything serious.”

You are somewhat of a walking dictionary, tell us a bit about that.
“I dedicated a great deal of my time reading up on any interesting subject that caught my attention. My early exposure to issues related to politics contributed significantly to fuelling my interest in its study. On one of such occasions I read extensively on the activities of late Olayinka Badmus Macaulay in pre independence Nigeria. His great understanding and command of the English language often made his British counterparts uneasy; the manner with which he warmed his way into the hearts of many at various rally grounds and held the crowd spellbound with his choice of words encouraged me to improve on my vocabulary. Others like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and many after him also distinguished themselves with their convincing eloquence.”

What inspires you?
“As a child who grew up in an environment in which many people led their lives struggling to get by the very next day; owing to the prevalence of poverty and the absence of basic amenities and made worse by the seeming incapability of the political class to effect any positive change of sort, I am all the more determined to through the power of accurate information propagate the knowledge which will empower everyone to make informed choices in their contribution to nation building. I am buoyed by a great desire to contribute my quota in the best way I can to improve my immediate society in the hope that it will result into a cascade effect which will spur gradual but steady development.”

Who is/are your role models?
“In my father, Mr. Moses Ezugwu, I see a man of many parts. A caring husband to my mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ezugwu; a loving father to his children; a man who believes that the best way to make an impact is to do things in extra ordinary ways irrespective of how ordinary such a task is viewed. A firm supporter of any individual’s resolve to harness their innate potential to maximum capacity in order to make meaningful contribution in society. An honest, disciplined, humble, patient and contented Christian who is of the view that the very essence of Christianity is leading a life worthy of emulation. Of course, it is imperative to mention here that the great deal of sacrifice and selflessness displayed by my mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ezugwu greatly impacted positively in making my father a better man. I do well to imbibe the aforementioned qualities in my interaction with others and hope that someone is inspired to become better.”

What advice would you give to persons aspiring to join your line?
“The media is a very powerful tool of effecting change. Whether positive or negative result, the eventual outcome is influenced by the stated goals set today by the individual in question. The onus falls on you to achieve all that you seek to attain. The decisions made today and the action put into practice will play a vital role in shaping the future; culminating in great reward or devastating consequences. Either ways society will have to live with the outcome of any such decisions, so one question that should be uppermost in their subconscious is ‘how would you want to be remembered by posterity?’”
