Wow! Roads melt in India as record-breaking heat wave continues (photos/video)

India’s on-going heat wave, which set a new record for the country’s highest-ever recorded temperature last week, is melting tarmac on the roads of some of India's busiest cities.

A video shot in the area shows residents becoming trapped and fighting melting tar while crossing the road as temperatures rose to 36C. Their shoes were getting stuck in the melting tar, some went back for their footwear; others left them were they lay. Press play to watch the video below.
“We are praying to the gods for an early monsoon so that people get some relief, as the
heat has taken a toll on our bodies,” a resident Neeraj Kumar told The Independent.
“We are not even able to do our daily chores properly.”
BP Yadav, head of the national weather forecasting centre of the India Meteorological Department, told The Independent that summer thunderstorms usually cool down the temperatures, but there hasn’t been enough rain yet this year.
“There's absolutely no water,” another resident told The Independent.
“The water dried up in January.”
As the temperatures rise and crops wither, more than 400 farmers have committed suicide in the last four months, according to The Indian Express.
