The Nation reports that this was one of the decisions reached by Sheriff and officials of the EFCC who grilled him for over seven hours on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

Quoting a source in the agency, the report said Sheriff, who is currently having a hard time in his party, admitted to receiving the amount which was part of an alleged N24.29 billion cash facilitated by a former Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former petroleum resources minister, to the state during the electioneering of 2015.

Sheriff got an administrative bail after he reportedly agreed to refund the money, according to the report which said he was grilled at the agency’s office located behind the Directorate of State Services (DSS) office off Maiduguri/Damaturu Highway, Borno state.

“Based on previous interactions with some leaders of the PDP in Borno state, we isolated issues for him and asked him to respond to the allegation that he benefitted from the N450 million allocated to the state by Diezani as campaign funds.

“One of the issues was the N40 million traced to him through Hon Kumalia for security.

“Investigation is ongoing as Shariff is answering questions in the EFCC office at the time of writing this report.”
