Arsenal give Jamie Vardy ultimatum to agree contract terms, Mahrez deal closer

– Arsenal have given Jamie Vardy till 11.30am today June 6, to accept their contract offer 

– The Gunners triggered Vardy’s £20million release clause on Friday, June 5

– Arsenal are also interested in Riyad Mahrez who has a low release clause 

After Arsenal triggered the £20million release clause for Jamie Vardy on Friday, June 3, Arsene Wenger is hoping to sign Riyad Mahrez.

According to The Express (UK), Wenger learnt the release clause for PFA player of the year Mahrez is very low and has moved to sign him immediately.

The Algerian signed a new contract he penned last August after joining Leicester in January 2014 for a bargain £400,000 from French side Le Havre.

The 25-year-old was the fifth top scorer in the Premier League last season with 17 goals.

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri has admitted “it’s all true” when asked about Arsenal’s move for Vardy while Gunners striker Olivier Giroud says he has been informed that Vardy “wants to join Arsenal”.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have offered Vardy a four-year contract thought to be worth around £120,000 a week – double his current wage with the Foxes lining up a £10m move for Watford captain Troy Deeney as his replacement.

It was also reported that Arsenal have told Vardy he has until 11.30am on Monday, June 6 when England board a plane leaving Luton airport for France to accept the contract tabled before him.

To convince the Englishman to stay, Leicester have offered Vardy a bumper new deal despite signing a three-year contract in February.

Vardy joined Leicester from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for £1m, with the League One club set to receive as much as £6.8m if the former non-league star joins Arsenal because of a sell-on clause.

Vardy scored 24 league goals as Leicester won the title last season and picked up the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards.
