Fashola has reiterated the resolve of the present administration to complete the 2nd Niger Bridge.

The minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola has assured Nigerians that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to completing the second Niger Bridge project.

Fashola gave the assurance on Monday, June 20, in Onitsha, Anambra state where he went to inspect the progress of work on the second Niger Bridge and other major projects, Daily Post.

The minister who also described the project as one of the largest infrastructural work being embarked upon by the federal government said the bridge would bring an improvement and accelerate the economic prosperity, transportation and exchange of goods and services across the country when completed.

He said: “I came here in pursuant of the commitment of the Federal Government and that of President Muhammadu Buhari to complete the bridge.

“It will give relief to the first Niger Bridge and also help in ensuring that it is now kept in a good state of repair and maintenance.”

Fashola also disclosed that land owners affected by the project would be compensated by the federal government and that.

He called for commitment on the part of host communities and urged them not to interrupt the progress of the project or engage in hostilities.

In another development, Babatunde Fashola has ascribed the recent drop in power supply in the country to the recent attacks on gas pipelines in the Niger Delta region by militants.

Fashola speaking on issues affecting the sector at an inaugural town hall forum on Thursday, June 16 said the government had concluded plans on sustainable power development and supply strategy to tackle the power crisis.
