Nigerian police makes major shift on security, are you affected?
– More than 1,500 Nigerian police officers will be promoted to senior ranks
– The decision was made on the initiative of IGP Solomon Arase
– The new senior officers work in policing areas across Nigeria
The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 1,670 Senior Police Officers to their next rank and has also approved the appointment of 147 other officers to various different ranks.
A statement signed by the spokesperson of the PSC Ikechukwu Ani state the decision to promote the officers came from the very top.
“The Commission’s approval was conveyed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase on Friday, June 3rd, 2016,” Ani said.

Part of the statement stated that a Commissioner of Police was elevated to the rank of AIG, 10 Assistant Commissioners were promoted to Deputy Commissioners, along with five CSPs to ACP and six SP to CSPS, while four DSP to SP, and 1,540 Inspectors to ASPs.
Ani further noted that the acting appointments are three DCP, five ACP, four CSPs, three SPs, five DSPs and 127 ASP. The approvals and acting appointments take immediate effect.
The Chairman of the Commission, Sir Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police, urged the affected officers to reciprocate the Commission’s good gesture by redoubling their efforts to the service of the nation.
