Premier League champions Leicester City complete first signing of the transfer window

– Leicester City have signed of defender Luis Hernandez from Sporting Gijon 

– Hernandez is a defender who has made over 133 appearances for Gijon 

– The Spaniard signs for the Premier League champions on a four year deal 

– Leicester City’s pre-season will see them play Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain

Leicester Cityhave completed their first signing of the 2016 summer transfer window with Spanish defender Luis Hernandez announced to join the club.

The 27 year old will  join on a four-year deal, starting on 1 July, 2016.

Sporting Gijon defender Luis Hernandez agrees free transfer switch to Leicester City

The defender will join on a free transfer after his contract with La Liga outfit Sporting Gijon expires and he will compete with Robert Huth and captain Wes Morgan for a place in center  defense.

The central defender is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy, having represented the club’s B and C sides before a move to Sporting Gijon in 2012.

A statement by Leicester reads: “With the Foxes set to embark upon their first-ever UEFA Champions League campaign in 2016/17, the addition of Hernandez bolsters what is an already formidable stable of defenders.”

Hernandez will join up with his new team-mates when they return to training in July and is expected to feature in City’s pre-season campaign.

The Foxes play the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic as part of the International Champions Cup  during the pre-season.
