See why 2 labour unions in Nigeria may clash over workers sack
– The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) is accusing organised labour of threatening to picket banks for sacking staff
– The body appealed to Solomon Arase to halt the proposed action as it could endanger banks and prevent people from carrying out their financial transactions
The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has urged Solomon Arase, the inspector-general of police, to stop organised labour from going with its alleged threat against banks.
The organised labour consists of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other affiliate organisations.
The umbrella body recently threatened to picket banks and other privately-owned organisations in the country that sacked workers.

NECA, which is an umbrella body for employers in the country, said the threat, if allowed, could endanger the stability of the banks.
It called on Arase to rise up to the security challenge and ensure that Nigerians are not prevented from access to their banks by the action.
Meanwhile, following a call by the federal government to banks to stop the mass sack of their workers, bankers’ committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria has promised to reduce the rate of sack in the financial institutions.
