Tension in Rivers state as gunmen shoot policemen; read what they did later

Gunmen have attacked policemen at their station at Rumuji community in Emohua local government area of Rivers state.

According to Daily Post, the gunmen are suspected to be cultists.

The unprecedented attack was carried out on Monday, June 6 and it was reported that officers on duty were shot at.

The gunmen also broke the police cell and allowed detainees to escape.

At the time of the report, the number of escaped detainees had not been ascertained.

The reason for the sudden attack was also not known.

The attack is coming a day after a similar attack occured in another community in Rivers state.

Nineteen people were killed by gunmen suspected to be cultist in Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area and Obite community in Etche council area of Rivers state.

The Punch reports that two rival cult groups invaded the communities on Saturday, June 4, and engaged each other in a free-for-all.

The gunmen, believed to be of members of Greenlanders cult, invaded Aluu in reprisal against a rival group, Icelanders and killed 15 people, including a nursing mother.
