The management of Lagos state University (LASU) has suspended a second year student of computer science for being in possession of Cannabis Sativa, also known as Indian hemp.

Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun suspended the student

The institution’s action was published in an internal bulletin made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos. ‎

The student was suspended by Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, the vice- chancellor, in line with the powers conferred on him by section 28 of the law establishing the institution.

According to the bulletin, the suspension will subsist until the student, whose name was not given, appears before a disciplinary committee of the university to defend himself.‎

‎The report said the institution’s security men apprehended the student on May 3, 2016, with the suspected substance.

The bulletin said possession of such hard drugs contravened the rules and regulations governing the university.

“In view of this development, the student is not expected to participate in the academic activities of the university until the suspension is lifted,” it stated.
