Ban on street traders: Criticisms trails Ambode’s decision
– Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has been subjected to criticisms
– The governor is facing the heat from Lagosians who are angry with his latest decision
– The governor recently stated that the state government will clamp down on street traders
Following his recent comments while appearing on a TV show that Lagos state has banned street trading and hawking, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has been taken to the cleaners by Lagosians.
The governor who was a guest on Your-View talk show on TV Continental yesterday, July 1, had stated that buyers and sellers transacting business along the road will be fined N90,000 or face 6 months jail term.
The governor’s comments did not go down well with many Lagosians who have been using their social media accounts to berate the governor for his statement.
Some have gone to the extent of displaying photos of the governor buying from street traders during the electioneering period, adding that the governor is just being a hypocrite.
It is however noteworthy to state that some Lagosians support the governor’s decision, while others have asked the governor to go ahead with his plans but make adequate security and economic plans before the decision is implemented.

An OAP’s verdict….
Ambode cannot pass a law to remove agberos from the street. It is harmless hawkers he is going after

A valid point…
A lot of parents send their wards up to University with money gotten from street hawking. Governor Ambode got this one wrong.

And the comparisons resurface….
Ambode had one edge over Fashola; that was a heart and government for poor citizens. He should reconsider his decision on banning hawkers.

Ambode wants to use his own hands to increase the crime rate in Lagos. He should go ahead.

Hawkers shouldn’t be found in the streets in the first place. Ambode’s resolution to ban them is well seconded
