A committee was set up to work out a new zoning arrangement for national offices, with the consideration of the national chairman zoned to the south as the party has already approved zoning for presidency to the north at the last national convention.

Also a national reconciliation committee headed by deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, was constituted to continue on the reconciliation efforts in the party ahead of the convention.

The meeting was presided over by the chairman of the national caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the secretary, Senator Ben Obi, and other members of the committee.

The May 21 national convention of the party in Port Harcourt had a disastrous outcome as Sheriff was sacked as the party’s chairman and a caretaker committee headed by Makarfi was inaugurated.

Sheriff who felt he was betrayed has been fighting the leadership of the party, insisting he remains the chairman of the party and that the caretaker committee was illegal.

The Federal High Court on Monday, July 4, ruled that the decision of the PDP to dissolve the Sheriff-led executive and appoint a caretaker committee, led by Markafi was not illegal.
