The eight politicians are scattered across the southern part of the country and they have made their ambition known ahead of the party’s convention slated for August 17, 2016.

Top among the contenders, according to Daily Trust, include Chief Bode George, a former deputy national vice chairman of the party; Prince Uche Secondus, the immediate national vice chairman of the party; Cairo Ojougboh, the immediate past national vice chairman (south-south); Raymond Dokpesi, a media mogul.

Others who have indicated interest are Jimi Agbaje, the PDP governorship candidate for Lagos in 2015, Professor Tunde Adeniran and Senator Bode Olajumoke, a former senator and top ranking member of the party.

Chief Bode George and Agbaje are from Lagos.

George, a retired military officer, has confirmed he would contest for the position.

However, his loyalists say if he would succeed, he has to romance Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state who does not seem comfortable with this ambition.

Recall that George had constantly made a case for the west to produce the chairman with the argument that the region had not had such opportunity since 1998.

Dokpesi, on the other hand, has begun consultations to achieve his ambition. At Asaba, Delta state yesterday, he revealed why Ali Modu Sheriff was ousted as the party’s chairman.

According to him, Sheriff has links with Boko Haram and is therefore not suitable to hold such a position in the party.
