Alternative music star Timi Dakolo has been dragged into a messy copyright war by veteran reggae artist Majek Fashek.

In an exclusive interview with Punch on Saturday, July 2, 2016 Fashek claimed that Dakolo stole his song Send Down the Rain..

Majek Fashek had told Saturday Beats that Dakolo capitalized on his ill health and stole his evergreen hit.

“He broke the rules of copyright. He is a thief because in music business, he must take permission before he works on someone’s song,” Fashek had said.

“That is why we have COSON. I did not give anyone the right to do anything with my song.”

In a swift reaction, Dakolo who did a remix of the song in 2013 took to his Insatgram handle where he addressed the issue. The Iyawo Mi crooner said he got permission to remix the song through Fashek’s manager. He also said that he has the invoice issued him by the manager. He wrote:

“My people it truly saddens me to see such… I always try to do things rightly and lawfully… I paid his manager to remake the song, i got my invoice…i even mentioned to him during our rehearsals at the Headies.. So honestly i don’t understand this write up… Oga Majek Fashek..I respect and love you…your voice gives life to lyrics… You are one of the best musicians I know..God bless you..”

Dakolo is also a judge on The Voice Nigeria.

Meanwhile, In June, Dakolo was in a war of words with the minister of Environment Amina Mohammed who had tweeted that the singer ignored her invitation to perform at the recently held Ogoni land clean-up launch held at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area (LGA), Rivers state. Dakolo in a response to her tweet wrote: “I LOVE MY COUNTRY…I LOVE NIGERIA…I DON’T HAVE TO PROVE IT. THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER SIDE OF THE TRUTH… ANOTHER SIDE OF THE STORY. THE LIZARD THAT IS TWERKING BEFORE A FALCON IS FUNDING ITS OWN FUNERAL.”
