The Nigeria Police Force said it has arrested the killers of the managing director of Today’s Prints Limited Olalekan Ogunranti.

A statement by the force public relations officer Don Awunah said the suspects were arrested after the acting inspector general of police Ibrahim Idris ordered the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the IGP’s Monitoring Unit to take over the matter and ensure the arrest of the culprits within a short time.

Awunah said the IGP made his order following the slow pace at which the investigation was going.

Awunah said: “Coker Daniel, one of the suspects and a 32 year old graduate, in his confessional statement led IRT operatives to Ibukun River in Ibukun local government area of Osun state where the mutilated body of the late Olalekan Ogunranti was recovered and deposited at LAUTECH Oshogbo as other suspects were arrested in Lagos and Ondo States respectively.”

He also confirmed that all the suspects confessed to the kidnapping, killing and mutilation of the late publisher’s body to prevent him (Olalekan) from disturbing them (the suspects) of money duped from him.

Awunah said the police chief believes that the arrest of the suspects is an evidence of the proactive measures used by the Nigeria police under his (Idris) leadership to secure lives and property of all Nigerians.

Olalekan was kidnapped on Monday, May 16, by some unknown gunmen in Osun State.

He was later killed by the kidnappers after a huge sum of money was collected from him.
