Bombshell: ‘Tinubu is responsible for crisis in APC’, guber aspirant declares

– This time, Abayomi is accusing Tinubu of causing the crisis within the party in the state ahead of the primary election

– He accused Tinubu of violating the principle of fairness reminding him of how he also caused the defeat of ACN in 2012

One of the governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo state, Dr Tunji Abayomi, has said Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is responsible for the crisis that is threatening to tear the party apart.

According to Abayomi, as reported by the Punch, Tinubu’s open support for Dr Segun Abraham, another aspirant of the party ahead of others, was the reason the party is boiling in Ondo state currently.

The party has scheduled its primaries in the state for later this August, 2016, but on Tuesday, August 16, a faction of the APC stormed the party secretariat and locked out all the members of the state working committee as well as other executive members accusing them of supporting imposition.

Abayomi was the first to blow the political whistle when he accused Tinubu of dictatorship within the party and alleged that the former governor of Lagos had warned the state leadership of the party to support Abraham ahead of the primaries.

In a reply, Tinubu reminded Abayomi that as an individual, he had the right to make choices and pick whoever he wants for positions of leadership.

Abayomi recalled how Tinubu allegedly imposed former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Rotimi Akeredolu, in the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) 2012 as governorship candidate.

Akeredolu lost in the election and Abayomi thinks that should have been a lesson to Tinubu on imposition.

The Punch reports that Abayomi wrote a letter to Tinubu titled: ‘Tonic of democracy is the right of the people to choose their leaders. No: 2.’

In the letter, Abayomi reportedly said: “I maintain, based on the reliable information of the attendees, that your meeting with the party leaders go beyond mere a ‘meeting’ or ‘assembly and talk’ as observed in your letter. You told them who the candidate of the party would be and directed them to work for him assuring them of your financial support.

“I maintain that considering that all the aspirants had all been subjected to the same processes, including serious conditional payments, it would have been expected that as a national leader of the APC and especially as you have severally assured many aspirants who came to you, that the party would guarantee to all, equal protection in the process, you should have refrained from directing the party to support an aspirant.

“Your summoning of party officials to a meeting and your instruction to them to support one aspirant, in my humble view, violated the right to fairness. It amounted to undue influence to unjustly favour an aspirant.

“Perhaps, I need to add that the confusion in the APC in Ondo state at the moment, like it was in the ACN in 2012, emanated from the unfair directive you gave to the party on July 31, 2016.”
