Kwara State Commissioner for Information, Mahmud Ajeigbe has revealed that the state government is making more than a billion naira on internal revenue – in an interview with NAIJ.com, the spokesperson to the state government made this revelation.

He added that the State government are no longer owing any workers in the State as all pending wages have been cleared up till date.

Recently, there has been so much mutiny in the State with some workers protesting in the front of the government house in Ilorin, but the Commissioner disclosed that the trouble has been settled.

“There are different categories of workers in the Kwara State which are State workers, the parastatal agencies and the Local government. We are not owning any State workers for now, but the challenges now are that of the parastatals and the Local government, and we have resolved the issue,” he said to NAIJ.com.

Kwara State government are said to have improved on internally generated revenue so as to cushion the fall in the State share of the Federal allocation, and NAIJ.com however asked the amount being made by the government.

“Well, there is no fixed sum, but we are generating more than 1 billion naira monthly through the Kwara State revenue board.

Just last week, there were reports in the State about the illegal recruitment of workers in the teaching service, and the Commissioner was asked the rationale that opened such loopholes.

“The truth is that there is no system where there is no loopholes, and there are some people who usually take advantage of the loopholes, but we are working tirelessly on this issue. We have panels working on it and they will later submit their report to us.

It has been widely reported in the local media that the Kwara State government are owing some commercial banks, and the commissioner attested to the fact that the report is the truth.

“Yes, we are owing some banks, but actually I can’t really tell the amount or the names of the bank and I don’t think that’s a problem.

“We still have three more years and the government has promised to fulfil all the promises made before the election most especially on the roads projects, dualization of Sango to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) and the Ganmo to Afon road.

Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe also spoke on the trials of the Nigeria Senate president Bukola Saraki as he claimed that the former Kwara State governor is being persecuted and not being prosecuted.

Kwara-interview

“The issue of the Senate President Bukola Saraki is more of persecution than prosecution, because when you see a situation whereby you keep looking at some other area when you try to persecute someone on an area and I think it is high time we try to concentrate on main issue and leave issue that will slow our economy down.

“Bukola Saraki has left a good legacy behind here in Kwara State, and like I said earlier on, his issue is more of persecution.

Ajeigbe advised the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari’s to stop laying emphasis on the fight against corruption as there are other important issues to tackle in the nation.

“I will advice we prosecute corruption in a faced manner because we are not seeing it to a logical end. What appears is we arrest, we allege and it should be more than that. I also want President Buhari to improve the security level,” he said.
