Barrister Solomon Dalung, the Youth and Sports minister, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay former Nigeria U-23 coach, Samson Siasia.

Dalung made this known when he received Siasia, his wife Eunice and Dr Mohammed Sanusi, secretary-general of the NFF, at his office in Abuja on Monday, August 29.

Siasia had visited to officially inform the minister that his contract with the NFF has ended, a disclosure that made Dalung hit back at the NFF.

The minister charged Sanusi to ensure that Siasia gets the arrears of his five month’s salaries, Vanguard reports.

He said: “Please pay him his five months’ salaries. They said he has resigned but he just said that his contract expired after the Olympics. His contract expired but you are owing him 5 months’ salaries and you have gone to employ a foreign coach and will pay him in dollars. It means you don’t like yourselves and nobody will sympathize with you. Please spare me the stress of talking about this salary issue or going to war with you on it. Please pay him and other coaches their outstanding salaries.”

But in a swift response, Sanusi told Dalung that efforts were already being made to pay the coaches their salaries.

He said the NFF has to regularize the TSA procedures before it can claim the money.

Sanusi said: “We have held meetings and we are waiting for the money to drop. The money is already there in our account but we need to regularize the TSA procedures before we can claim the money. We are almost through with the process. Once that is concluded, we will pay them.”

Siasia, who recently won bronze with Nigeria’s U-23 team at the 2016 Olympics,  said he is “done” working for Nigeria after feeling neglected by the NFF before and during the Rio games.

But shortly after, Siasia was labelled an ingrate by a top official of the NFF.

The official threatened to expose Samson Siasia, if he continues to castigate the football house.
