The FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, has challenged states sharing boundary with the FCT to take advantage of their proximity with Abuja to develop neighboring towns.
In a press statement by Muhammad Sule, the chief press secretary, the minister gave this this challenge when the Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Usman Yamusa led a high powered delegation of the Keffi traditional council to visit him in his office in Abuja.
Bello urged the states to use the direct exchange of persons and businesses between these communities to ensure rapid economic and infrastructural development of the neighboring towns.
The minister remarked that Keffi as an emirate and as a city has served to ease the pressure on Abuja by providing accommodation and hospitality to the numerous staff of government and private organizations who commune from those areas to Abuja city centre every morning and return in the evening.

Mallam Bello reiterated that Keffi and other neighbouring towns or cities should enjoy tremendous benefits from those exchanges, which definitely can be translated into economic and social benefits.
He said that the history of the FCT Aadministration (FCTA) would not be complete without mentioning a number of persons who have worked and continued to work from these states.
He added that FCTA will support the Nasarawa state government and other bordering communities very near to the city based on available resources, to ease some of the pressures on them.
“Your emirate has provided food for the capital city through the various activities of agriculture in your domain. I’m raising all these as means of encouragement to you to know that people usually bring about development.
“So, if you continue with your open door policy and you make people within your Emirate feeling that they are at home, by the grace of God, they will provide you development and communal expansion,” he said.
Responding, the Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Usman Yamusa assured the minister of the continued support of the people and Keffi Emirate Council saying, “at anytime, we are there for you and we hope you will also be there for us.”

Recall that Dino Melaye, the chairman Senate committee on FCT on Friday, February 5, faulted allocation of lands in Abuja to former president Goodluck Jonathan.
He made the allegation during a budget defence meeting between his committee and Muhammed Bello, the FCT minister who claimed that the area was supposed to provide tourist attraction for foreign visitors.
However, Bala reacted to reports saying that throughout the tenure of the previous administration, all allocations of land in the FCT were based on professional advice, availability of layouts and the provisions of the Land Use Act.
He also said that in reference to the Ministerial Hill, which the Senate committee gave the Department of Development Control directive to stop work, the area was not designated as recreational area or park but was designated as undevelopable among many other reasons.
