Saturday, August 6 will remain indelible in the hearts of Ikorodu indigenes as one of their favourite sons, Sanai Agunbiade, was named the pillar of the division in Lagos state.

The event which was clashed with the one-year anniversary of Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi’s ascension to the throne, was attended by every important person in the suburb of Lagos and beyond. In fact, the palace of the Ayangburen was filled to its capacity as everyone struggled to catch a glimpse of their industrious son.

Agunbiade is the majority leader at the Lagos state House of Assembly, and haven distinguished himself in the last one year, was rewarded with the chieftaincy title of Opomulero (the pillar) of Ikorodu kingdom by Oba Shotobi (Adegorushen V).

Unlike most of the other events organised by the Ikorodu politician, there were many traditionalists present at the modern palace of the Ikorodu monarch, as well as top politicians from the state, some of which were the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, his deputy; Sanni Eshilokun, among others.

NAIJ.com correspondent on ground observed that during the occasion, a goodwill message of Dr Robert Brown, the godfather of the Oba of Ikorodu aka Ilufemiloba, was delivered to the teeming audience inside the expansive mansion.

The black American multi-millionaire expressed his regrets at not being able to attend the occasion, but extended his regards to everyone present and promised to always have Ikorodu in mind.

Those who were present at the occasion which ensured that Ikorodu was locked down, expressed their joy at the honour conferred on the politician representing Ikorodu at the Lagos state Assembly.

“SOB has proven time and time again that he is one of the illustrious sons of this division. Although I have not had any personal encounter with him, the things everyone around me says about him makes him look like he’s the only reasonable politician in Ikorodu.

“I hear about his computer training programmes which have been on for several years now, as well as the interest-free loans he gives to market women. The guy has done well for himself and truly he deserves this honour,” one of the guests who pleaded anonymity at the venue of the occasion stated.

Speaking in the same vein was another Ikorodu resident who categorically vowed to personally stand against anyone who tries to bring any harm on the majority leader of the Lagos Assembly.

The traditionalist said: “Instead of any harm to SOB, it should come to me. That man has done a lot for us in this division and we are all very grateful to him.”

Asked if he did not think the legal practitioner paid for the chieftaincy title the man replied vehemently that, “even if he has paid for it, he deserves the award. Many people pay for awards that they don’t deserve. SOB is the Opomulero of Ikorodu Kingdom, period.”

About two weeks ago, Ikorodu town hall in Lagos was agog as the same Agunbiade had an interactive session with members of his constituency.

The event which was tagged ‘Feedback’ attracted every prominent son and daughter of Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos, as well as top politicians from the Lagos state House of Assembly and ex-administrators in the state.

Agunbiade, who is a known radical in Ikorodu politics, took the audience through his achievements in the last one year, the most important of which happened to be the successful passage of the properties right bill.
