– Urges the government to avert spectacular terrorist attacks on Nigerian soil by directing the intelligence agencies, the military, law enforcement and citizens to be on full alert

The appointment of a new leader for Boko Haram, Sheikh Abu Musab Al-Barnawi is a very serious and dangerous development in the ongoing war against terrorism and insurgency, according to the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSSON).

Vanguard reports that the president of AISSSON, Dr. Onah Ekhomu, has called on the federal government to consider the strategic leadership appointment in Boko Haram as a direct threat from ISIS.

He urged the government to avert spectacular terrorist attacks on Nigerian soil by directing the intelligence agencies, the military, law enforcement and citizens to be on full alert.

He said the making of a leadership change for Boko Haram signaled a much closer relationship between BH and ISIS than was previously believed to exist.

“If ISIS gets to appoint senior leadership for BH, then they are probably running the Nigerian terror group as a local franchise,” he said.

“Strategic decisions such as leadership appointments are made by the spiritual leader of a terrorist group. In other words, the appointment of Al-Barnawi might have been made by ISIS leader Sheik Abu Bakr El-Baghdadi himself”,” he added.

Ekhomu noted Boko Haram caused over 30,000 deaths in Nigeria under the leadership of Abubakar Shekau.

He advised the military to remain focused and on high alert.

He warned that there were strong indications that Boko Haram is re-strategizing, not surrendering, advising the government to be concerned about lone wolf attacks (such as suicide bombers) and wolf pack attacks which ISIS is very good at.

He also advised against the hasty release of so-called repentant Boko Haram fighters, noting that “we could be recycling captured terrorists back into the battle-field”.

Ekhomu said since the armed conflict is still ongoing, captured terrorists should be considered prisoners of war.

Similarly, former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has warned that the replacement Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, with Abu Musab al-Barnaw, by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), possess great danger to the unity of Nigeria.

Speaking on the backdrop of threats issued by the new leader, Abu Musab al-Barnaw, to kill all Christians he could find, Fani Kayode said that Shekau is evil, but warned that Al-Barnawi is even worse, Daily Post reports.

The former minister described the new Boko Haram leader as the devil’s incarnate because he represents ISIS.
