Land for Isoko North housing units not forcefully acquired, says LG Chair
By Ochuko Akuopha
OLEH—CHAIRMAN of Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr. Emmanuel Egbabor, has described as false, rumours that the council forcefully acquired from the Ozoro community, the land on which it is currently building 50 housing units for staff and stakeholders in the area.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after an Isoko North town hall meeting where he presented the account of stewardship of his two years in office, Egbabor said: “The council, knowing full well that the laws are there, cannot take anybody’s land forcefully. It was jsome few land grabbers from some families in Ozoro that are coming to say that the land given to the council is too large and that they want to take part of it.
“Let me tell you, I am an indigene of Ozoro and I will not sit back and allow some individuals to take the land that Ozoro community has given to the council. Those people, if you check their history, what is their occupation? They are land speculators. They have finished all the lands they were selling, and now they felt because council land is lying fallow, they should come and take part of it.”
