“The priority the president has placed, not only by his actions so far but also his appointments are being made to address the area of the North East insurgency.

“We also have a role to play because the issue of appropriation also lies on our doorstep and we should find ways to ensure that it is well funded”, said Saraki.

He added that most of the lawmakers have personal experiences meaning the need to find a solution will be done as soon as possible.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu said the motion came exactly when it was supposed to due to the high level of destruction of lives and property in the affected areas recently.

“This motion is important to me because I experienced the civil war and more.

“During the civil war, we saw schools and markets destroyed, we slept in the bush with corpses all around us and many people suffered from diseases, like kwashiorkor.

“There is therefore the need for rehabilitation and we have to protect our citizens irrespective of where they come from,’’ he said.

Ali Ndume, the senate leader also stressed that the insecurity issues have elongated from a national problem to an international challenge and must be tackled.

He also commended the present government who have been trying all means within their power to combat insurgency terming them as “sincere, serious and determined”.

On the other hand, Olusola Adeyeye (Osun Central) said he strongly believes that the war can be defeated without borrowing money from other sources.

“All we have to do is a levy of 1% from all public and private workers to fight this indecisively.

“If you create an agency, it will simply create another money gulping enterprise which we don’t need.

“We should pump money directly to where the work has to be done and minimise the bureaucracy.” He said.
