Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state is in a very happy mood as his re-election bid has received a new boost following the stepping down of a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Reuben Okoya backed out of the governorship primary to support the governor’s aspiration to return to office.

Dickson expressed his happiness to newsmen shortly after his screening where he confirmed the withdrawal of Okoya from the race, This Day reports.

He said that Okoya’s decision to withdraw from the race was for the interest of the party and the state. The governor said that he will approach Okoya for this support to build the state.

Bayelsa state governor said: “I use this medium to communicate my appreciation to my brother Rueben Okoya for showing that building the party and the state, with service to the people, is more important than personal ambition.

“In the end what should matter to everybody is the party’s victory and how Bayelsa and Ijaw nation can continue to be for PDP, to define their pride and integrity.

“I appreciate Okoya for his spirit of statesmanship. I will personally invite him to join my team to build the party and the state.”

Meanwhile, deputy national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Engr Segun Oni, had disclosed that the party would be fair to all in the forthcoming primary in the state, saying no corner will be cut in the conduct.
