SAD! About 118,101 Students Land In WAEC’s Trouble For This Terrible Reason
No fewer than 118,101 students who sat for the May/June West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations will not have their results released after allegedly engaging in various acts of examination malpractice.
This was revealed to Daily Sun by the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of WAEC, who disclosed that it is holding on to results of the candidates over allegations of examination malpractice.
The allegations include copying from textbooks, use of mobile handsets and prepared answers allegedly smuggled into the examination hall, among others.

While others were allegedly aided by invigilators, colluded with and assaulted invigilators and another set were found to have extensively copied answers in the exam hall.

Daily Sun reports further that candidates even left the examination hall with scripts and attempted to submit the same after the stipulated time.
The NEC met between November 10 and November 12 to deliberate on the withheld results and a source close to the NEC said: “some of the things the candidates were caught with were admitted as evidence and brought to the committee to enable them take a decision.

“The exhibits of candidates were in many mailbags and big envelopes attached with their written statements as well as comments by the supervisors/invigilators.”
The affected candidates represent 7.41 per cent of the 1,593,442 million who sat for the examination and the deputy director of the public affairs of WAEC, Yusuf Ari, confirmed that the decision was taken by the committee after the meeting.
Ari said that schools with students who were affected will be reached as some of them and their parents have continued to visit the council to know their fate.
