Senator Ben Bruce Points Out Flaws In 2016 Budget, Advises Buhari

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, representing Bayelsa East constituency in the National Assembly, has pointed out some flaws in President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2016 budget.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce noted that the budget has many assumptions and few certainties.

According to him, the budget fails to address how to diversify Nigeria away from her oil addiction.

“Nigeria is addicted to oil. Oil is a drug and we broke the first rule of drugs-don’t get high on your own supply,” he said.

Senator Bruce noted that the budget has many assumptions and few certainties.

He said the budget has no road map for weaning the country off imported food which is the main consumer of our foreign reserve.

Bruce who asked for details on the N5000 job seekers allowance policy, called on President Buhari not to see those asking questions as enemies as they are only concerned in making the budget better.

Giving his own advise on the 2016 budget, Bruce said: “We should spend as much money as we are spending prospecting for oil in the North in resurrecting the Groundnut pyramids in Kano.

“We should also spend as much money as we are spending prospecting for oil in the North in resurrecting cocoa farms in the South West.”

Murray-Bruce has been using social media to share his opinion on national issues. He recently highlighted very pressing issues affecting the Nigerian economy.

He expressed worry over the continuous decline in economic growth in the country. According to him, if something is not done urgently, it might lead to big problems.
