President Buhari condoles with Egyptians on EgyptAir flight MS804 crash

– President Buhari expressed his sincerest and deepest condolences to the president of Egypt and its people on EgyptAir flight MS804 crash

– A Paris-to-Cairo passenger plane carrying 66 people on board reportedly crashed into the sea, search for wreckage and people is ongoing

A statement issued by Mallam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, on Firday, May 20, reads in part:

“President Muhammadu Buhari phoned President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt Friday evening to commiserate with him and the people of Egypt on yesterday’s EgyptAir crash which claimed many lives.

Condoling the Egyptian leader on the loss of 66 lives in the crash, President Buhari assured President Al-Sisi and the people of Egypt of the sympathy of all Nigerians as they mourn the passengers and crew of EgyptAir MS804.

President Buhari told President Al-Sisi that the thoughts and prayers of Nigerians are with the families and friends of bereaved Egyptians and other nationals who are in sorrow as a result of the tragic air crash.

The President prayed that God Almighty will comfort all those who lost relatives and friends in the crash and grant eternal rest to the souls of those who died. 

President Al-Sisi thanked President Buhari for his condolence and sympathy.”

Recall that EgyptAir flight MS804 heading from Paris to Cairo has disappeared from radar with 66 people on board, including two babies and one child.

The plane, an Airbus A320, left Paris, France at 11.09pm local time on Wednesday night and was lost from ground radar at 2.30am Cairo time around 16km inside Egyptian airspace.

Though terrorism has been widely suggested as a likely cause for flight MS804’s crash, after more than 36 hours no group has claimed responsibility and experts are weighing possible other causes.

Greek, Egyptian, French and UK military units are taking part in the operation near Greece’s Karpathos Island, the doomed jet’s last known location.
