The Ogun state police command, Southwest of the country, has concluded plans to sue one Joe Fortemose Chinakwe for naming his dog after President Muhammadu Buhari.

Chinakwe used the surname of the nation’s president, Buhari to call his dog.

Premium Times learnt from the Ogun state police public relations officer (PPRO) Abimbola Oyeyemi, that after investigations, the force resolved that the dog owner’s actions could lead to a “breach of public peace.”

“The Ogun state police command has resolved to charge the suspect to court on Monday, August 22 to forestall breach of public peace which the suspect’s action may likely cause.” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Oyeyemi stated.

The police spokesman said the man’s offence is a one-count charge, adding that “his action is a provocative one and that is why the suspect will be charged for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.”

The man in question is a 40-year-old trader in Ogun state. He was was apprehended and put behind bars at the police headquarters in Sango Otta, Ogun state, for three days last week .

Vanguard gathered that this happened after a neighbour lodged a complaint that Chinakwe named his dog Buhari.

The Ogun police said the dog owner neighbour’s name was Halilu Umar, an indigene of Sokoto state.

Information had it that Umar told the police that the 40-year-old’s decision to name his dog Buhari was targeted at rubbishing his father who is called ‘Alhaji Buhari.’

On Chinakwe’s part, he narrated to Vanguard that he named his dog ‘Buhari’ based on his personal love for the country’s president.

A few days ago, one Ada Ogbonna named her dog after minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, whom she says she admires.
