Ascon Oil reveals cause of yesterday’s Lekki fire outbreak
by Ranti Joseph
Ascon filling station at Lekki Phase 1 caught fire on Thursday but was contained by the Swift response of the Fire Team on ground and the Lagos state fire service.
The incident saw the destruction of millions of naira worth of property but no life was lost.
In a statement signed by digital analyst, Quadrant Company, Ugbegua George Odianose, Ascon explained that the main building and the reservoirs of the fuel station were unaffected due to the safety precaution taken by the oil company to build its discharge point away from the main building.
The fire outbreak was caused from a discharge at the point of offloading product from a tanker, engulfing two tankers and some vehicles parked by the road side.
“It was an accident compounded by the current fuel scarcity in the country with ASCON OIL being one of the few stations with a reliable steady supply even in times of scarcity. No life was lost to the incident, the pumps are intact and emergency fire service officers were on site to contain the flames yesterday,” the statement said.
