As Nigerians patiently wait for the declaration of the winner of the Presidential elections held on March 28, 2015, after peacefully exercising their franchise, the Nigerian military has recoded another huge victory against the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The Nation reported on Monday that officials of the 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support) of the Army killed three Boko Haram insurgents and arrested one.

It was gathered from an Army Captain, who did not want his name in print, that the Islamist militants took the fight to the Nigerian troops at a check point near Dukku, the headquarters of Dukku Local Government, Gombe State.
The captain further revealed that the operation which started at about 00.30 hours lasted for one hour.
He listed the items recovered from the sect’s members to include one army green Toyota Hilux van, three primed improvised explosive devices (IEDs), one FM rifle, three boxes of .50mm live ammunition, 150 rounds of .50mm live ammunitions and 70 empty shells of .50mm ammunition.
Other recovered items include a pair of mobile police uniform with Clement Ahmadu inscribed on it, two jerry cans of petrol, tyre patching materials, motor vehicle spare parts, one empty AK 47 magazine and two empty boxes of armour.
The army captain also revealed that one INEC smart card reader meant for Nafada Local Government polling unit was recovered, one empty INEC bag, three bags of rice and one pot of boiled rice.

The Army officer urged residents of the area to remain calm and assured them of adequate protection from the security operatives that are on ground.
Boko Haram members on Saturday, March 28 wreaked havoc in parts of the state. The Islamist militants killed no fewer than seven people, comprising two personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and a police officer on election duty.
The insurgents also lost five of its members to officials of the joint security operatives in Dukku when it attacked and razed down a police station in one of the villages in the area.
Boko Haram has killed thousands of people as well as displaced many since it began its onslaught in 2009. Boko Haram is a Hausa word that means “Western education is a sin,” but it is officially called Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad.
The Islamist movement which is based in the North-Eastern part of the country is also operational in Chad, Niger and northern Cameroon.
The U.S. State Department designated Boko Haram a terrorist organizations in November 2013.
Nigeria’s general elections were recently postponed by six weeks because of the sect’s menace, a development that made the Federal Government to allegedly employ hundreds of mercenaries from South Africa and the former Soviet Union to assist in securing victory before the commencement of the March 28 elections.
